Writing 'The Prism's Awakening'

'The Prism's Awakening' is the first installment of a novella trilogy titled 'The Prism's Tales'. These stories follow four teenagers as they navigate life after receiving supernatural powers. This story is how it came to be.

At 16 years old, I had a dream about a group of young superheroes saving the world. When I woke up, I knew it was a story I wanted to write.

That day, I scribbled down character and world building ideas during my classes (I promise I was an excellent student), and the pieces of this world started to come to life. I came to know the main characters, Kyle, Dylan, Adrian, and Beatris as I grew along with them.

Despite the heart behind the story remaining the same, it has gone through many stages. From a third-person story in a notebook, to a first-person story in a Word document, to a Google document that shifts between multiple first-person perspectives, each iteration brought a new layer of life. Through every step, the encouragement and new perspectives from my friends are what kept me going. I would have given up on these stubborn characters a long time ago if it weren't for them. How else could someone keep working on a story for 7 years?

The perfectionist in me isn't ready to let it out in the world, but I know I have nit-picked every little detail for far too long. It's no ground-breaking 100,000 word+ Fantasy novel, but it's a fun read filled with a wide cast of characters to love, and I can't wait to share it with you.

Kyle is a free spirit who stands up for what he believes in. Dylan is cautious and soft-spoken. Together, they stumble upon an ancient secret that sends them on the journey of a lifetime. They travel the world, make new friends, fight monsters, explore different dimensions ... and then go home for dinner.
